What Does It Look Like To Trust God?

“Either we are adrift in chaos or we are individuals, created, loved, upheld and placed purposefully, exactly where we are. Can you believe that? Can you trust God for that?” ― Elisabeth Elliot

It’s week one of our study looking at Proverbs and Psalms, and here we are, already learning so much. What does it mean to be shaped by wisdom? With God’s direction and leading we are exploring together how our lives can truly be transformed as we get to know His wisdom.

This week our study was by Leah Firth from Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

SUMMARY:

This could be the most famous verse in all of proverbs, although it is a tough assignment. Our temptation lies in trusting or believing that we know best, rather than God our Father knowing best.

God promises that if you “trust Him from the bottom of your heart and don’t try to figure it out on your own. If you listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go: He will keep you on track.” (The Message Translation)

God is trustworthy. He’s transcendent, above all He has created and He’s immanent, Immanuel, God with us. He wants to be known and wants us to trust Him, so He can direct our path.

So will you trust Him? Will we let Proverbs 3:5-6 reflect in our lives?

Reflection questions:

  1. How would it feel to quit trying to figure out how to finagle the best deal out of life?
  1. What does it look like to quit striving to run your life?
  1. How can you turn in faith and trust to Jesus-the only source of wisdom?
  1. What does it look like to trust Him in your singleness or marriage? In your parenting? In your work and schooling? In your finances? In your health?
